West Ohio Food Bank Programs Manager, Dena Hedrick, and Communication and Public Relations Manager Jason Aldrich, traveled to Washington, D.C., from March 3-6, as part of Feeding America‘s Fly-In, to advocate for food insecurity issues and to urge support for a strong Farm Bill, and federal funding for emergency food programs.
Hedrick and Aldrich met with lawmakers at their offices on Capitol Hill, to stress the importance of protecting federal nutrition programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—lifelines that help millions access the food they need to thrive.
There were representatives from Feeding America-affiliated food banks from all across the country, including a strong contingent from Ohio, which included the West Ohio Food Bank, Shared Harvest Foodbank of North Central Ohio, Mid-Ohio Food Collective, Southeast Ohio Food Bank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and the Ohio Association of Foodbanks. The food bank reps took to the hill on Wednesday, March 5.
